In this Passage Pass activity, students read seven of the most important passages in Act I of Romeo and Juliet. For each passage, the student must record his or her thoughts and ideas on the speaker, situation, and significance of the passage. He or she then passes to a neighbor so s/he can react to the first student's thoughts, and add his or her own ideas. This process is then repeated until all students have read each passage and the rest of the group's responses on that passage. Students really like this activity; they enjoy reading the different opinions on the significant passages and it is an excellent way for them to really understand the significance of each selection.
