By the time I reach the end of Act II of Romeo and Juliet, I find that my students typically need a break from writing essays, so instead of writing an essay, I have them address the task through a rap song using the app Autorap by Smule. This is a highly engaging group task that my students really enjoy! Their favorite part is listening to each other's songs. We listen to all of the group raps without revealing the names of who is in each group. I display the lyrics on the board while we are listening, and the students each fill out a rubric for their peers.
