One of the hardest things while reading Romeo and Juliet is keeping the characters straight and knowing who belongs to which family. This activity can be used before reading so that the students know who is who and where they fit in the big picture.
First, print the character map for students. Have them draw lines to connect the characters. For example, a solid line could mean related. A one way arrow may mean "in love with." Set a key and help your students map out the relationships.
The second part is a character matching. Students must cut out the names and the descriptions and match them correctly. When done, they will color code the Capulets and Montagues.
