Help students to unpack the text with these close reading and analysis questions! Because many students find understanding Shakespeare difficult, each scene has been briefly summarized. For more advanced students, these summaries may be deleted. Summaries are followed by in-depth comprehension and analysis questions that require textual evidence and help students build their overall understanding of the play. The questions also include several opportunities for students to use textual evidence to write argumentative paragraphs regarding the text. Students may complete the questions individually or in small-group or whole-class discussion. These questions are also great for substitute teachers!
The questions in this set build upon the characterization and thematic focus in my Romeo and Juliet Close Reading / Analysis Questions for Acts 1, 2, and 3, but they can also be used individually.
