Who is responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet? Put a character on trial, and find out if it's their fault!
In this activity students are "attorneys" and will work as groups to put together a court case to prosecute or defend an assigned character. They will call witnesses to the stand who only answer questions in text from the play. The groups will then have a trial with the team of their corresponding character (ie: if group a is in charge of proving Juliet is innocent, they will meet with group b who is in charge of proving Juliet is guilty). After the presentation, the class will be the jury!
This includes the instructions and accompanying worksheet.
Possible characters to assign groups could be:
Lord and Lady Capulet
Lord and Lady Montague
