This resource is a three-page handout comprising a detailed, engaging, hands-on, and multimedia Romeo and Juliet final project. It can be modified slightly for any play or piece of drama.
Students are given the option to choose any of the following projects: creating a website, video, presentation, song, music video, or scrapbook, or writing and delivering a monologue. This project engages students to interact with the play's plot, characters, themes, and literary devices in a more creative, holistic, and nuanced way than they may have been able to during in-class instruction.
Additionally, the grading rubric (also included in this resource!) helps students to learn and value effort, thoroughness, collaboration, and creativity, rather than the teacher assessing the project for certain plot points or certain standards.
As a final touch, the project also includes a "pitch" sheet, which can be given out in class. Students can use class time to brainstorm a project idea with their group members, "pitch" their idea to the teacher, and individually sign an accountability form to keep everyone in the group on track.
I hope you enjoy using this resource! Please feel free to modify it any way you wish.
