Making material relevant and accessible is always a top priority in my classroom, particularly when my students think there is absolutely no way the material relates to them at all. This was certainly the case when introducing Romeo and Juliet to my 10th grade students. This Four Corners discussion activity was designed to challenge students to access the main themes and concepts present within the play. Create a safe, lively dialogue surrounding the main concepts within the play that help students to understand the overall content and make connections to their learning. The statements included within the four corners activity are designed to stimulate passionate conversations. Wake up your class and their connection to Romeo and Juliet before you begin reading.
Encourage proper academic discourse in your class in a four corners discussion activity. Slides include instructions for four corners activity, working agreements for discussion and stimulating statements regarding relationships, friendships, loyalties, conflict, and more.
