After reading Act I of Romeo and Juliet, I have students create masks for two characters who were present at the Capulet party. Before designing their mask, they have to copy and cite a quote from each character. They must describe their characteristics and explain what the quote shows about the characters.
They can color, add feathers or sequins, or draw designs. Sometimes we put them on the wall or add a stick to each to make it a mask they can hold in front of their face.
