This packet was created as a student note taking and reference tool to be used when teaching William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. The product contains 2 graphic organizers (a plot chart that aligns with Shakespeare's 5 Act Play Structure) and a character chart to track the major characters' house affiliation and characteristics. A teacher answer key is also provided.
I use this chart in my classroom to help students analyze how Shakespeare's 5 Act Play structure and each character's personality and actions influence the play.
This resource is aligned with the following Common Core Standards:
- RL.9-10.3: Analyze how complex characters (e.g., those with multiple or conflicting motivations) develop over the course of a text, interact with other characters, and advance the plot or develop the theme.
- RL.9-10.5: Analyze how an author's choices concerning how to structure a text, order events within it (e.g., parallel plots), and manipulate time (e.g., pacing, flashbacks) create such effects as mystery, tension, or surprise.
The resource is provided as a PDF for easy printing.
