This is one of the most engaging activities when reading a play in class! Even though this is marked as a Romeo and Juliet activity, it is extremely adaptable for any play read in-class.
This activity is intended so that students are in groups of 3-5 (or even larger, if necessary). Each group assigns one person to each task and then they take turns rotating through all of the roles. The roles include Summarizer, Discussion Director, Connector, Illustrator, Actor, and Characterization Wizard. I have used this as a whole class activity with a lot of success—I have students in groups working on one of the roles, and then when I call out for them to switch, they rotate to the next role.
I highly recommend customizing this worksheet to your classroom needs. This is an activity which is flexible to class size and energy level, so it's up to you what works best for your class.
