Product Description
The following ten-page study guide provides students guiding questions while they read Shakespeare's tragedy "Romeo and Juliet." The questions vary in difficulty, but they encourage students to not only simply recall comprehension questions about plot but also infer how Shakespeare builds drama and suspense and indirectly characterizes his characters. Other assessed literary concepts include asides, conflict, costume, dramatic irony, dynamic vs. static characterization, foils, imagery, irony, monologues, motifs, setting, situational irony, soliloquies, symbolism, themes, tone, and tragic flaws. There are two pages for each act. This packet can be used by itself or as a formative assessment to prepare students for the summative assessment of a test. A journal pre-reading question that is thematically similar to events in that act and a movie question act as pre-reading strategies for students to prepare for what they are about to see and read. The film questions are anchored to the 1968 Franco Zeffirelli film adaptation, but they are broad enough to apply to several different film versions.
