This project is a twist on an old favorite - the music composer project. In this Final Project for Romeo and Juliet (which really could be used as a project throughout the reading), students will pick one scene per act and determine the theme and mood of it. Then, they will find an appropriate song that matches the theme and mood of the scene to play behind it.
The students love being able to choose their own music for the performance, and this helps excuse the work that they have to do to determine the theme and mood. I also did this in partners to allow the students a cooperative learning experience.
The attached rubric is set for what I needed to grade at the time, but this could be twisted for many Reading and Writing Standards that I have not listed.
