Romero Britto Butterflies Art History Game
: Would you like to get your elementary-aged students excited about art history? Looking for a way to study Pop Art in a whole new way? Want to fill up your sub folder with easy "one day, fun day" activities that require minimal set-up and ease of use? Need a way to incorporate the Arts into your homeschool teaching environment?
Romero Butterflies Cats Art History Game is a three-page PDF document. The first page is the dice game, the second page shows several step-by-step pictures and gives the directions for the game, and the last page is a tracer if you'd prefer your students to have butterfliess of a uniform size. Simply print out the second and third pages back-to-back, give them dice, and watch them have fun creating their own Romero Britto butterfly.
You will design a Britto-style butterfly by rolling the die and collecting the different patterns required to create it. First, either draw your own butterfly or trace the butterfly tracer onto another sheet of heavy white drawing paper. Next, draw no more than 10 lines across the page to break up the background and cat into smaller shapes. Next, roll the die to select the first pattern from the first column and draw it in one of the areas of the areas on either the butterfly or the background. Roll the die four more times, drawing each selected pattern in one of the other areas. Repeat the same 5 patterns until you have filled up most of the areas you’ve created. Using washable markers, outline everything and fill it in neatly. Be color smart. Color one pattern in using light and dark values of the same hue. For example, a dark green background with light green polka dots. Or use analagous (”neighbor”) colors such as a pattern of orange and yellow stripes. Lastly, outline all the major areas of the design and the lines you added to it using a black marker.
