This is a Warm Up/Review Lesson using two first day covers-envelopes with commemorative stamp, postmark and artwork.
One cover is from Reagan's first inauguration, the second is for the stamp released immediately after his death with Berlin Wall artwork. Students are asked to analyze the images found on the covers, interpret an excerpt from President Reagan's speech at the Brandenburg Gate, compare perestroika to glasnost, then create an illustrated timeline of the Cold War during Reagan's administration.
Key words: Ronald Reagan, Berlin Wall, Cold War, Mr. Gorbachev
