Room on the Broom Book Companion PAGE BY PAGE ICONS VISUALS Halloween Book Activity --- Speech Therapy, SPED, Special Ed Classroom, RSP.
I like to put put detachable pictures on the book pages which makes the story interactive while reading. It really does make the story come to life for some of our students.
It provides an Icon cue and tactile element for students to stay focused and alert to the story.
I provide 1-3 pictures per page that pertain to the key details of that page. So, when the witch loses her black hat, a detachable black hat Icon/word is provided.
This is the book version

•The witch tapped the broomstick and whoosh! they were gone.
•White paper (8.5” x 11”) --- cardstock quality is optional
•©Velcro (hook and loop) hook is the scratchy side, loop is the fuzzy side.
•Print activity pages.
•Laminate these pages.
•Cut out each picture.
•Put a small piece of ©Velcro (scratchy side) on back of each picture.
•Place ©Velcro (fuzzy side) on pages of book. Find an to place the ©Velcro on.
You don’t want to place it on the actual object. For example, you wouldn’t place the bow on the actual bow of the illustration.
•Then adhere picture to the ©Velcro loop.
Continue until you have hooked all the pictures to the page loops.
I’m sure you have your own awesome way to present this lesson, but here’s my approach.
Note that I work with small groups of 2-5 students.
Before reading the page, I hand out the pictures to the students and name what is on it or have them name
it. As I read the page, I have them listen for the picture they have. When they hear it, they place the picture
on the page. Go through the entire book like this.
Also, I hand out the two repetitive quote cards, so they can say the passage when it comes up in the book.
I also have other ideas that I've included in this product.
