An excerpt from one of Roosevelt's Fireside Chats. This particular chat has to do with the U.S. banking system during the Great Depression. Using this worksheet, students will read through Roosevelt's remarks and answer three questions regarding Roosevelt's plan, the state of the banks during the Great Depression, and the effectiveness of the Fireside Chats. This is a great resource for building reading comprehension skills and analyzing the effect a president can have on American society. It's designed for a high school classroom, it pairs well with an audio recording of the fireside chat (which can be found online), and takes about 20-30 minutes to complete and discuss.
