PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

In this fun lab, students make root beer to model cell respiration and fermentation. Part I involves students mixing yeast, sugar, extract and water to start the root beer making process. Second part involves, white boarding to begin a general discussion on respiration. This activity should be done before a lecture on respiration. The lab will take two days to respire/ferment. This time should be spent lecturing on the topic and then for an assessment, follow up again with the white board activity to assess what your students have learned. Finish with a root beer float party. Always a hit with my students :-)

If you have trouble finding rootbeer extract locally, I use Zatarains brand and I buy it from Amazon. They sell 4 oz bottles in a 12 pack which lasts me a few years depending on number of students.
