Recognizing roots help readers become detectives figuring out unknown words. Three different 'matching' root games allow students to build their vocabulary and have fun in the process. Each of the 3 games has 8 different roots/definitions to learn. By mastering all the roots and definitions, students will learn 24 roots and be on their way to increasing their vocabulary by hundreds of words. How? Knowing just one root can help students figure out word meanings that contain that root. Ex: By knowing MAL means faulty, improper or bad, a student can better figure out words like malicious, malfunction, malice, malnutrition, malady, malware, malformed, maladapted, malign, maladroit, etc.
Use these games throughout the year so students can practice and review the 24 roots and definitions. Just have students pair up and get started.
Three games and directions are included for this easy, quick, and fun interactive root game your students will enjoy.
