Recognizing roots will help readers become detectives figuring out unknown words. Three different 'matching' root games will give students a chance to pair up, build their vocabulary, and have fun in the process. Each game has eight different roots/definitions to learn. By mastering all 24 roots, students will be on their way to increase their vocabulary by hundreds of words. Knowing just one root helps students figure out word meanings that contain that root. Knowing MAL means faulty, improper or bad, a student can use context clues to better figure out words like malicious, malfunction, malice, malnutrition, malady, malware, malformed, maladapted, malign, maladroit, etc.
Use these games throughout the year. It's fun, educational, and disguised as a game. Use when you find a few extra minutes at the end of the hour or as reward time.
