This packet introduces students to 15 common root words. On the first page, students match vocabulary words and meanings, based on the provided list of root words and definitions. On the second page, students cut out Domino cards and match the root words and pictures with the correct definitions. (I have students glue this in their notebooks to later use as a reference.) On the third page, students practice pronouncing the vocabulary words and write the number of syllables for each word. In addition, students are asked to interpret the meaning of additional words, based on the vocabulary and root words they previously learned in the packet. On the last page, students use context clues and root word definitions to complete fill-in-the-blank cloze sentences. An answer key is included.
I use these activities with my ELL, WIDA level 1-3, ninth grade students.
