This document is made of 18 sets of root words and quizzes with answer keys that are helpful for standardized tests and in the real world. The listed roots are prevalent on the SAT’s and ACT’s. Each graphic organizer contains 10 roots, prefixes, or suffixes. For every set of 10 roots, there is a quiz. Each quiz (after the second quiz) covers roots from the previous two lists. This is a great review so your students don’t forget what they have learned.
I recommend handing out the graphic organizers on a Friday after a roots quiz and then having the organizer due by Tuesday or Monday. Register quizzes on Friday’s. I also highly recommend you tell your students to be familiar with the listed words underneath the root as these words will be used on the quizzes and when printing, print the organizers double sided (this will help a lot!). I’ve found it works best if tests are registered every two weeks and a cumulative test of every lesson is given at the end of the year.
The organizers should be filled in with words from underneath the listed root or you can have students go and find words that contain the root. In the connections section, students should draw a picture that represents the meaning of the chosen word, write a sentence using the word, or write the definition of the word.
