Immerse your students in Greek and Latin roots!
When I wanted to reinforce the content of a series of lessons I taught about root words, I typed up this series of posters, stapled them to individual sheets of construction paper, and taped them to the walls of my classroom. By the time I was done, my class was fully "print-riched" with a multi-color display that served as a constant reference point during future vocabulary lessons, and while reading difficult texts like the plays of William Shakespeare. You can be sure that your root word lessons will not have been for naught, when thanks to these posters your students are still using root words months after you first introduced them.
Directions for making a colorful root word display on your wall:
-print the 97 pages of the packet on single-sided sheets of paper with a standard printer
-staple each sheet to a colorful piece of construction paper to make a poster
-tape each poster to the wall of your classroom in orderly columns and rows (the root words are conceptually grouped, so try to keep the sequence intact)
-wait for gasps of astonishment when your students walk in the next day!
Alternatively, make a great review packet for your kids by following these steps:
- change the printer settings so you are printing 6 pages of the packet on each sheet of paper
- also, to save paper, print double-sided
- after printing the packets, staple the upper left corner of each, and distribute them to your students so they can review root words from the comfort of their homes!
