This is a PowerPoint that I use as a “Do Now” every day for twenty weeks. I have the slide of the day up on the board as students walk into the room. Students know that the routine is to immediately sit down, copy the root word and definition, and then come up with four or five examples of words that contain that root. We discuss the word options as a class before we begin the lesson for the day so that students fully understand the root word and its various uses. The PowerPoint is set on a three minute timer so that the slide will disappear once the time is "up". This forces student to focus quickly as soon as class begins and set the pace for the rest of the class session.
