As an end of year project, students research their first ancestor to immigrate to Canada, and present their findings in a gallery walk with an artifact.
Creates a personal connection to the curriculum and allows students to share their family stories and cultural identity with the class. Students reflect on family and personal identity and how their heritage contributed to the makeup of Canada.
It was created for the BC Social Studies 9 / 10 curriculum but can be adapted easily for other grades.
- If a student is aboriginal I have them research the earliest ancestor they can find.
