I've used this in my Advanced Algebra (Algebra 2) classes for the past several years to have my students practice finding roots of higher order polynomial functions by factoring. This is the first practice activity I have my students do in this section. There are 16 functions and they are all factorable by trial and error (some have a GCF that must be factored out first) and range from 3rd to 8th degree. Students are to classify the polynomial by degree, factor the polynomial, find the roots, and classify the roots. Their results are organized in a tree map allowing all work to be viewed on a single page. The tree map is set up to be printed on 11x17 paper. I allow my students to copy the original functions onto the tree map or to cut and paste them.
