Rosa Montero is a Spanish journalist and writer. Her short story "Como la vida misma" is required reading for the Spanish Literature AP test. However, the story itself is an easy reader which can be read with intermediate Spanish students as well as advance students.
This story is ideal for reviewing the Present Progressive. I also take the opportunity to review traffic signs and giving directions. Thus creating an entire thematic unit that interconnects with other subjects.
The Web Quest contains 10 questions for students to research. All questions are in the target language. Key is provided.
I first start with the Webquest to introduce the students to the author. Then I review the Present Progressive and vocabulary for traffic signs and giving directions. Lastly, we read the short story.
Great way to make connections to real life situations such as getting stuck in traffic. Many of the high school students are learning how to drive so it also leads to discussions on road safety. I take this opportunity to discuss the importance of not using cellphone when driving, etc.
