PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Rosa Parks: collaborative group portrait poster. This product contains two methods for making a classroom Rosa Parks poster. Use these lessons for Rosa Parks Day (February 4th or December 1st), Black History Month or for any Civil Rights lessons.

There are two variations of this lessons included as well as bonus activities.

30 pieces

Lesson #1 Rosa Parks Collaboration Poster
This lesson is very easy. Each student is given one section of a large mosaic poster to color in according to the instructions on each sheet. Once all sheets are colored & cut out they are then assembled to reveal a large, approx. 35in. x 42 in. (depending on printer settings) multi-colored mosaic/poster/mural of Rosa Parks.

Lesson #2: Rosa Parks Classroom Drawing Project
This lesson is not hard but is more challenging than the coloring version in Lesson #1. In this lesson, each student will actually draw their own grid piece using a small version of their assigned gridcell as a reference. Once the pieces are drawn and cut out, the classroom poster can be assembled. This lesson engenders a lot of cooperation among students to get all of the drawings within the individual gridcells to line up well and to produce a nice looking final (approx. 35in x 42in)
poster Rosa Parks.

The results from both Lessons are stunning!!

BONUS Activities:
I have created a variety of handouts that individual students can work on when they are finished with their poster piece. The handouts are for a variety of levels so you can find one that fits your grade level. Included are: unscramble the portrait drawing, unscramble the portrait cut and paste (with two grid variations) and a line drawing of Rosa parks that students can color in any way that they choose. These are all great handouts to use during the week you are celebrating Rosa Parks when students finish other work early, as morning work or simply to honor Rosa Parks at any time!
