Rosa Parks & “White Socks Only” Lesson - 3 Video links PBIS Character Ed
If you love the book, “White Socks Only”, as much as I do, you are going to love this lesson. I created this lesson to discuss the character word, fairness, as well as to discuss the courage that it took for those who were in the Civil Rights Movement to work towards equality for all.
This is a lesson that addresses the ever-important concepts of tolerance, discrimination, civil disobedience, and courage. It includes 20 slides and links to 3 videos ranging in length from 4 min and 13:00 min. This is a rich variety of concepts that all need to be taught to our students to ensure success.
One of the videos in the lesson is of the book, “White Socks Only”, being read aloud by a SAG member who does a great job! There are two other videos that detail the history of the civil rights movement and why it was needed. Both describe the contribution and history of Rosa Parks. One is longer and will be best used for 2nd grade and up while the other is shorter and appropriate for K-3rd grades. I wanted to include both so that you can have them available for what suits your student needs best.
Additionally, there are links at the end of the presentation that will take you to some excellent activities that you can use to reinforce the concepts that you have taught.
I would schedule at least 45 minutes for this lesson and might break it into two continuing lessons, especially if using the activities. This lesson is easily customizable for both primary and intermediate levels.
The PowerPoint is easily personalized and includes both animations and transitions to hold your students' interest. Make your lesson come alive for your students and help them to connect to the concept in a fun way that will help them to remember the important lessons you need for them to remember.
You may want to rearrange the slides to make this presentation fit your needs. I have them arranged the way that makes sense for my students, but that may not be the best way for you. I have included multiple videos for each concept, so you can pick and choose what one(s) work best for your needs.
Videos are NOT embedded, but are links. I do not own all of them, so if there is a problem with a broken link or something else, please let me know so that I can repair, replace, or fix the presentation for you. Anytime you have technology incorporated, you have the risk of having related issues. I appreciate communication so that I can provide the best possible service for you. In the event that a link does not work, please contact me via the “TpT QUESTIONS” page, and I will do my best to remedy the situation for you!!
Just a FYI- links do not work in editing mode in Powerpoint. They are only active in presentation mode. Please be aware of this. Links are active during the presentation. They are not active when you just open the file.
