Rosie’s Walk Book Companion Brown Paper Bag Craft: Pet, Puppet (Farm, Autumn)

Read Rosie’s Walk by Pat Hutchins. Students create brown paper bag craft. Take the class and their pet Rosie on a walk around the school. Teacher gives a student (and his/her pet Rosie) and command, such as, “Rosie, sit next to the flagpole.” Continue this procedure until students are ready to give classmates a command.

Two crafting options work equally well with this craft. Do what works best for you and your students!
Option 1: Glue head to bottom of brown paper bag. Glue wing and feet to the side of the bag. Glue tail to the back of the bag.
Option 2: This is my students’ favorite option! Before the lesson, stuff a brown paper bag with a single piece of scrap paper for each student. Twist the top of the bag closed, and staple it.
Students cut out pieces and bring all pieces to the teacher. Teacher uses a stapler to staple the head to the top, twisted part of the bag. Teacher staples wing and legs to front of bag. Teacher staples tail to back of bag. (Stapling is much more durable than glue for this project.)

Let’s Get Krafty!

Krazy for Kindyland crafts are created for students ages preschool through third grade. Products are designed with efficiency in mind, as I certainly understand the KrAzY schedule of a teacher! Craft pieces are also designed to use as much paper space as possible, as conservation is another constant thought on the busy teacher’s mind. Depending on the craft, you might choose to slightly enlarge the pieces based on the needs and ages of your students, the time of the school year you complete the craft, and/or your preferences. It is helpful to have students lay out their plan before gluing.

Krazy for Kindyland crafts are compiled into value packs, so be sure to check those out before purchasing individual products among the same theme.
