Rotating sentences are great for the child who cannot read or simply as a bridge between the word level and spontaneous sentences. In a “rotating sentence” the sentence remains the same while the target word keeps changing. Having the sentence stay the same allows the student to memorize the sentence and practice it with greater fluency. For example, the sentence might read, “Put the ________ in the cute car.” You would rotate all the student’s words containing the target sound through the sentence. For example, “ Put the cat in the cute car.”, Put the monkey in the cute car.”, Put the comb in the cute car.” etc. Each rotating sentence also has at least 2 additional words with the target sound in it to maximize practice opportunities. In addition, these sentences have picture prompts to help the nonreader retell the sentence. The kids LOVE IT!!! They think it is fun and some of the sentences make them laugh because they sound silly!!! Included in the packet are 17 rotating /S/ blend sentences and 95 /S/ blend cut and paste picture cards.
Each of the worksheets in this packet contains one “rotating sentence” with visual cues. Each “rotating sentence” is comprised of numerous words with the target sound to be practiced. The student cuts out the pictures on pages 3, 4 ,5 or 6 and then picks the picture he/she wishes to use to complete the “rotating sentence “on the page. He/she will glue that picture on and practice saying the sentence aloud. After completing each worksheet, it may be sent home for homework practice.
