Description

The Rotation in a Vertical Plane Project 4 is a useful Windows application. It is a highly motivating activity designed for Honors and AP Physics 1 high school physics students. The project involves a mass attached to a string that is rotating in a vertical plane. The tension in the string at the 12 o’clock position, the length of the string, the mass of the ball, and the value of gravity are known. The students will learn to calculate the following for any hour of the clock:

Angular and Linear Displacement (measured from 12 o'clock)

Angular and Linear Velocity

Angular and Linear Acceleration

Tension in the string

Potential, Kinetic, and Total Energy (PE = 0 joules at 6 o'clock)

Centripetal Force and Acceleration

Net Force and Direction of the Net Force

Angular Momentum and Moment of Inertia

There are three good things about this product. First, a tutorial that explain the different calculations is provided. Second, the students will be highly motivated while they work for about three hours to complete their projects. And third, with this application, the teacher will be able to type the data in a text file for an entire class: the names of the students, the tension in the string at 12 o’clock, the length of the string, the mass of the ball, and the value of gravity in a few minutes, and the computer will create right away individual text files, one per student, which contain the solutions of the different problems, for every hour of the clock, for all the students in the class. Give the students a few days to complete their projects.

It takes just a few minutes to learn to use this application. Simply place the Zip file in any folder or subfolder you want. Right click the mouse and select Extract all the files. The subfolder Rotation in a Vertical Plane 4 is created. From inside the subfolder, just select the file Rotation in a Vertical Plane 4 and you are ready to start. It is that simple. If you have any questions, we will be happy to answer them as soon as possible. Again, this program is for computers using Windows 10 or newer.
