This is a rough draft format I have used for years with beginning essay writers. It is an outline for students to follow until they get the gist of the layout expectations of standard essays.
This document is on Word so you can use it over and over again, which is what I do. I put it up on the wall/whiteboard and let students type in statements and we would write practice essays as a class before writing individual essays.
The different colors just help distinguish the different parts of an essay. I found this helped students, especially good as a modification for SpEd students.
The introduction is done for you on the topic of leadership. I have two possible sentences plugged in for each line. But the topic can be whatever (school uniforms, use of electronics in school, legal voting age, etc).
The following initials are used in the doc:
THS = Thesis Sentence/Statement
SD = Supporting Detail
TS = Topic Sentence
I have my students write rough draft outlines of their own using these abbreviations, then remove them for the final of course. But my students are very low, yours may not require as much organization.
