Use this problem-based learning activity to provide your students with an extension activity after teaching a unit on rounding. This activity could also be completed as an introduction to a unit on rounding.
Round It Research includes four missions your students can choose from. These missions can be completed independently or with a partner or group. After completing the mission, students will have a reflection sheet they can complete to show what they have learned. All four missions are meaningful, real-life examples of situations in which it would be applicable for students to round.
Students can practice rounding to the tens and hundreds place with this activity; however, this activity could easily be adapted for rounding to any place.
In my own classroom, I use this activity for a week. Students conduct their research, answer questions, and then students present their findings to the class.
