Rounding Around the Room
This resource has 3 whole class activities and 1 math center.
Whole Class Activities Include:
Activity 1: Make a number line around the room posting the numbers about every 3 feet. Then give every student a number. The student then must go and stand beside the hundred/thousand they are closest to. Example: A student with the number 352 would go stand beside the 400.
Activity 2: Using the student cards, have a few or the whole class order themselves from least to greatest or vice versa.
Activity 3: Using the student cards, divide the class in half and each side race to order themselves without talking.
The first set of numbers is for rounding to the nearest hundred.
The second set of numbers is for rounding to the nearest thousand.
Math Center Includes 2 tasks:
Take out an envelope and divide the cards up evenly among your group. Place the rounding cards in a line in front of the group. Round the number cards to the nearest hundred/thousand. Place it under the correct rounding card. Check your answers on the back of the folder once your group has completed the task. **Challenge** Compare the numbers until your group has all the cards displayed from least to greatest.
Divide your group into 2 teams. Each team should receive 1 set of rounding cards and 1 set of number cards. Have a race to see which team can round to the nearest hundred/thousand. **Challenge** Play again and race to order them from greatest to least.
You will receive large rounding cards that you can print on white/colored cardstock to go around your room. You will receive number cards that can be printed out on cardstock or taped to index cards for the students to use. You will receive everything you need to make the file folder math center. Answer Key is included to use for the whole class activity or math center.
