DESCRIPTION
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rounding numbers. They get it or are totally lost. From my experience, it depends on what camp you're from, Camp "5 is in the Middle", or Camp "0-9". I myself am in the latter and I'll explain why. Rounding is dependent on knowing place value. In Place Value, we only use SINGLE DIGITS! This is understood. Camp "5 is in the Middle" teaches that the numbers you use to round are 1-9. The visual that 5 is in the middle of a number line confuses students because you cannot show that 5 is actually closer to the next ten, convincingly. If you're in Camp "0-9", modeling how 5 is actually closer to the next ten on the number line is more evident, and shows an even distribution of digits. ZERO IS A DIGIT! Zero can occupy any place on a Place Value Chart!

I've included a separate "4 or Less," and "5 or More" anchor chart as well as one on rounding BIG numbers and decimals. There is a chart that also demonstrates "Rollercoaster Rounding" as a strong visual that students can refer to.

Languages
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have included a separate resource in Spanish. It is greatly different than the English version due to how time is read in that language.

I am not a native speaker, relying solely on Google Translate to do the bulk of the work, I hope that the translation is accurate. No soy un hablante nativo de español. Estoy usando aplicacione para traducir mis cartas de anclaje al español. ¡Si hay cualquier error grmmatical por favor notofy yo inmediatamente!

Printing
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Document dimensions 24"x31" (scaled up from a letter-size format). It will print safely on regular copy paper. Make sure that you have your settings to fit the document to print before you actually print.
Not a lot of wall space? Want to save paper? Display this on your interactive whiteboard during the lesson.

Editing
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is a high-resolution vector-based illustration created in graphic design software.
This file cannot be edited in any office software (ex, Word, Powerpoint). However, I discovered that you can use Inkscape, a FREE vector-based program, to open and edit the PDFs included in the download, although you will most likely need to make some adjustments to the file after you do. This will enable you to use vector-based graphics for cleaner anchor charts/posters.
