Help your students remember the Rounding Rule with a rhyme and visual clues. Remembering whether or not a number is "big enough to be bossy" is easy when you see "5 or above...give it a shove". So when looking at that number to the right of the place value number being rounded, remember the rounding rule. If that number is a 5 or above (6, 7, 8, 9), then it's big enough to be bossy and will shove the number to be rounded up to the next numeral. If that number to the right is a 4 or below (3, 2, 1, 0) then it leaves the number to be rounded alone and it does not change.
