In Canada, we are no longer able to get pennies from the bank or at the store when we buy things. We need to learn to be able to round up or down when paying for things.
Cashiers are learning how to make change without using pennies. For the time being, if a person pays in cash, they can give pennies, but they will not receive pennies back as change. If a person pays with a debit card or a credit card, the actual amount is paid.
Rounding to the nearest nickel now is important. It is also good practice using money to round to the nearest dime or dollar. The following activities are created to practice these 3 functions.
I have included number lines and information about how to round up or down. I have also included some extra number lines to practice doing so.
The activity comes in black and white as well for cost effective printing.
