This three day lesson cycle starts with rounding on a number line to build the conceptual understanding of what rounding really means. Then it builds to using the rule and rounding only to the greatest place of every number. On the third day, students extend the rule and round whole numbers to any place within the number.
-Draw a number line counting by 10s and place 57 on it. Which ten is 57 the closest to? Why?
-Round 6,782 to the nearest thousand.
-All of the numbers below round to 800 except which one?
