I created this resource for my own students to work on while they were learning about how to round numbers. I love to give them opportunities to color, cut and glue because it helps develop their fine motor skills and overall confidence. I’ve noticed that in this digital age, students don’t quite have the fine motor skills that their peers did a few years ago. My students really enjoyed assembling this project and by the end, the learning they had gained seemed almost coincidental to them. I would teach a lesson that corresponded to the section of the folder they were doing that day and off they went.
I was so pleased with how my students mastered the concepts. When the time rolled around to work on that last panel of word problems, they were confident and ready to go. I teach my students to use all the lines provided when explaining their thinking, which is why there are so many there on that last page. I ask for full sentences that include part of the question and provide a rationale for their answer.
I hope you find this resource to be as useful as I do. I’ll definitely use it again next year. I especially love that it combines Math with a little bit of art, if you will and this way, even students who struggle in Math find something to look forward to.
In addition to the student printables, I have also included a color copy of the folder so you can quickly assemble a no-answers “finished” copy for your students to use a guide.
Please don’t hesitate (and I really mean it!) to email me if you need something tweaked here. I designed this for my own students and third grade colleagues in my district, but if there is something specific you need in this resource, please let me know, I’m happy to help.
My email address is email@example.com and I’m pretty quick with these things, so if you need a word or two changed, do let me know as it takes no time at all.
Thanks so much for visiting my store!
