This product provides scaffolded learning for students learning to round to the tens and hundreds place. With a focus on rounding through a development of number sense, students learn to round through mathematical understanding rather than application of a rhyme. Providing students with guided practice with pages 3 - 7 helps strengthen their ability to work with an open number line. Use the graphic on page 3 first with the midpoint marked, and page 4 later, as students gain more experience with placing numbers correctly. Make as many copies of pages 5 and 6 as needed so that all students are working with the same numbers. Give students plenty of opportunities to practice placing numbers on the number line while eliciting their reasoning as they work. Use the worksheets on page 7 or 8 as a follow up. Use the sets on pages 9 - 19 to give students hands-on practice with rounding to the nearest hundred, and rounding three digit numbers to the nearest ten.
