MCC3.NBT.1 Use place value understanding to round whole numbers to the nearest 10 or 100.

This packet contains a 5 day unit on the Common Core Standard MCC3.NBT.1. This unit is 100% Common Core aligned and the lessons throughout the unit progress from a concrete to an abstract learning.
Each day in this lesson contains a whole group lesson complete with essential questions, activating strategies, guided lesson, activities, and a summarizing strategy. Each day also contains a small group activity. If you do not have a small group math time, this activity can be used as an extra resource throughout the week.
Each day also contains a small group lesson activity in which what was taught in whole group can be practiced for mastery in a small group setting.
Finally, there is a homework page included for each guided lesson/day.
Day 1: Rounding to the nearest 10. Students will begin using base 10 blocks and sketching to help round numbers (Concrete).
Day 2: Rounding to the nearest 10. Students will use number lines to round to the nearest 10 (Representational).
Day 3: Rounding to the nearest 100 using a number line.
Day 4: Rounding to the nearest 10 and 100 using number lines. (Abstract).
Day 5: Rounding to the nearest 10 and 100; Assessment.

*Activities have a hands on approach, using dice for rounding, riddles for higher order thinking, competition/games for students to play, and I have, Who has activities that also promote higher order thinking.
