Mathtivity - Rounding on the Mountain
Combine a lesson on 'rounding' with craft and creativity!
This packet will provide you with template pieces to make a cute 'mountain and ball' to show students what happens when you round a number. Once made, students can put the ball on a number on the mountain and then roll the ball 'down the mountain' to the closest 10. This visual will help them understand rounding and position of numbers.
Explain to students that 15 usually rounds up to 20.
Students color the templates pieces and attach the ball tab with a brad to the base of the mountain, allowing it too slide and move up and over the mountain
A blank mountain is also provided, so you can choose your own number range.
These pieces can be printed on color paper, or print them on white paper and ask your students to shade them.
Students can record their findings on the optional recording page.
