Rounding can be a tough topic for students to understand. However, I have found that teaching students a "balloon trick" to use when rounding really helps my students grasp the concept. I have included step-by-step instructions on how to round using the "balloon trick," as well as a visual which can be blown up and used as a poster, or placed into student notebooks.
**Although I have included the "balloon trick" as a rounding strategy within this packet, all of the activities and worksheets can be completed with any rounding strategy that you use within your classroom! There are two pages describing the strategy, however, the remaining activities simply have a balloon theme.
This 71 page packet includes the following:
*2 step-by-step instructions for the "balloon trick"
*1 rounding/place value flip book that can be pasted into math notebooks or on plain pieces of paper
*2 Roll, Round and Cover math games
*4 cut-and-paste sorts
*30 task cards with recording sheet
*"I Have, Who Has" cards
*"Round Around the Room" scavenger hunt activity with recording sheet, as well as blank cards that can be customized for your classroom (I would laminate the blank cards and then use dry erase marker to write your rounding questions on them so that you can reuse!)
*3 cut-and-paste mystery picture worksheets
*6 additional worksheets that include higher-order thinking skills
Thank you for downloading my product! I hope that you find this resource helpful within your classroom! Any feedback that you might have is very much appreciated! :)
