RtI Paragraph Writing Rubric 

This is the 4th rubric in my set of rubrics that utilizes a progression of skills that build a student’s writing abilities to this point.  I have used this rubric with students in grades 3rd-8th with great success. Rubric levels 1, 2, and 3-5 are skill-building to paragraph writing. This 4th rubric utilizes a thinking process of TAEEC (topic sentence, answer, evidence, explanation and a closing sentence).

Students, teachers, peers, and/or parents can evaluate student writing over time.  I have found students can use the RtI TAEEC writing rubric over time to compare and compete against themselves to improve performance. This rubric utilizes a 24 point max score.

It is a great way for a student to monitor his/her growth over time and allow the student to participate actively in the RtI process. This rubric can further the data collection process and allow for a smooth transition between writing levels.
