RtI Phonemic Awareness Beginning Sounds
We made this to help our RtI kiddos who need simple one concept activities, at a time, to learn the concept of beginning sound identification. No fancy borders or fonts to distract them just high quality clip art from Pink Cat Studio for picture identification.
This does not have any words, it only uses pictures, Phonemic Awareness by definition truly is about the auditory discrimination of identifying sounds, Once they have mastered identifying pictures that begin with the same sound, then you can begin teaching them using words.
Very little Prep ( we love that)
Print . We like card stock but not necessary.
Laminate or place into a protective sleeve and put into a binder.
Materials to use. We have ours in a small storage container for the children to pick what they want to use. (Wikki sticks, stampers, dry erase markers, colored transparent chips, dry erase crayons, playdoh ,foam letters, we like to also use cereal (Cherrios, Fruit Loops etc.) that after the kids finish they can eat. (Who doesn't like that?)
It includes Mats for all 26 letters
5 long vowels and digraphs: sh, ch, wh, ph
*** finding beginning x sound pictures was difficult, so we decided to have the children find the /X/ sound in any position.
