ABOUT THE BOOK:
The 1000 Sight Words for Intervention are compiled from the Dolch, Fry, and academic vocabulary lists. These words are intended to be memorized by students in order to help with word recognition. This is not to replace phonics instruction but is to be a separate resource for reading instruction and assessment.

INDIVIDUAL CLASSROOM USE:
-At the beginning of the year, teacher will administer a sight word accuracy and fluency assessment using the sight word lists
-Begin assessing each student at list 1
-Mastery of each list will be determined if the student meets the following criteria:
--Able to read the words in 2 minutes with
--100% accuracy
-If a student meets the criteria, they can be assessed on the next list.
-If a student does not meet the criteria, they will need to work on activities to help them become familiar with those words (flash cards, writing practice, phrase cards, etc.)
-After initial testing, students should be assessed every 2-4 weeks to show growth/mastery.

CAMPUS USE:
If you plan to use this assessment across your campus, it might take a few years to get it fully implemented but testing should work as follows:
-At the beginning of the year, each teacher will administer a sight word accuracy and fluency assessment using the sight word lists with every student

GOAL:
By the end of the year students should know how to read the words in the time frame given.
