This is a project packet that guides students through designing a Rube Goldberg's machine from basic household items. It includes a few diagrams, a checklist of goal options (what the Rube Goldberg's machine will ultimately do), simple machine requirements, step requirements, energy transfer requirements, a page to draw their schematic, and a page for presentation preparation and reflection. It is a fun and challenging activity to engage students in the engineer-design process, collaboration, and problem-solving, while keeping them excited! I used the activity with 5th-7th graders. It could be connected with a simple machines and energy transfer unit. It is best accompanied with the "Rube Goldbergs Powerpoint"
