These rubrics fit the six traits of writing and describe what a score of a five, three, or one would look like in a piece of writing. A four or a two would be scored by having characteristics of the level above and below it. Have students score their own writing or use these as a class to discuss a grade for a sample piece of writing. These rubrics can help facilitate a great writing discussion by asking students to explain why they gave a piece a certain score. They help students become familiar with different levels of writing and what they need to do to improve their own writing.
