I use this lesson on the third day of the school year. Rubrics can be a boring topic to teach, so I use an ice breaker, and try to make the lesson as interesting as possible. It is one of those things all students have probably seen by this point, but still need to be reminded of in the beginning of the school year.
Included with the lesson is a sample of my grading policy.
This lesson uses the workshop model and has a checkbox for the teacher to circle which standards they are using in the lesson. While it lists ESL standards and was used in a classroom with ESL students, this lesson is appropriate for students of all abilities.
