(A Classroom Behavior Plan that is simple and effective!)
I have used this plan in my classroom for many years. What I like about this behavior plan is that it is simple.
This plan is basically a three strikes and then a "think sheet" is given.
Included are 6 posters that include the rules. The letters for the word "Rules" so you can put them up along with the posters.
How this works...
The first time a student chooses to not follow the classroom rules, the student is given a warning, and a check is placed by their name on the “student monitoring sheet” that I keep on a clipboard that is kept on my desk or near where I am working. I like to keep behaviors confidential. I had always been taught not to display names on boards or charts when students did something wrong. This plan gives the students the confidentiality that they need.
If the child misbehaves a second time a check will be placed by their name. If the child breaks the rules for a third time a “think sheet” will be given. The think sheet allows time for reflection and correction of his/her behavior. This “think sheet” is brought home to be discussed and signed by parents.
This plan helps keep the parents informed as well, and is a good way to keep track of behaviors that you can share with parents during parent-teacher conferences, etc..
I have enclosed a letter that I send home to my parents, along with the letter I send a copy of the “think sheet” so they know what it looks like.
I have also included a daily/weekly discipline chart that can be used daily on students that need that feedback on a regular basis. Hopefully you will not have to use this.
Keeping a positive classroom is important and also included in this pack are “Caught Being Good” tickets that you can give to your students when they are displaying appropriate behaviors.
Building Mr. Potato Head is also included. This can work for a specific whole class need. My students will be using this incentive during transition times, but can be used many different ways.
I hope that you find this plan successful, simple and effective.
