Objective: Students will learn the 11 rules of exponents and how to apply multiple rules to solve expressions.
Learning how to work with exponents (raising a constant or variable to a power) is fundamental to all levels of mathematics from pre-algebra through all levels of high school and college mathematics, and many professional careers, particularly those involving science, technology, and business (accounting, finance, economics).
In this packet, each of the 11 fundamental rules of exponents (well, number 11 is really the same rule being looked at from two different perspectives) is stated, followed by example problems and practice exercises that are directly related to the rule shown. After a certain grouping of rules, a set of additional practice problems (which can be assigned for homework) are presented. These practice problems combine the use of multiple rules into a single problem.
This packet also includes a single page quick reference guide for the students, as well as a complete answer key for the teacher.
